Contribute

MimOS is an open project welcoming the whole community. There are many ways to get involved.

Ways to contribute

Code

Once the repository opens: large changes with a prior design, and no base-image package from AUR. In the meantime the recipes and the package policy can be audited from the packages published on the channel.

Testing

Try it on your computer: it is still the most valuable way to help. MimOS has been installed and is used daily on machines with Intel, AMD and NVIDIA graphics, but they are XI14's own machines — variety of graphics, not a compatibility lab. Tell us on Discord how it went, and it helps more if you say the machine's model, its graphics card, and whether you booted from the USB or got as far as installing.

Accessibility

Help with screen readers, contrast and keyboard navigation. It is MimOS's biggest gap: the installer has been inventoried end to end, but actually listening to it is something only a person can do.

Documentation

Improve technical documentation, test guides, and the onboarding experience for new contributors.

Design

Contribute to visual identity, installer design, and website user experience.

Release engineering

Participate in reproducible packaging, build automation, and published asset verification.

The source repository is still private, so issues and changes cannot be submitted yet. The package channel is public, and the most useful thing you can do today is run the image and tell us what happens.

Community

Discord is where everything else happens: questions, screenshots, things that break, and word of each release. There are two of us, so we answer when we can — but we read all of it.

Support the project

MimOS is made by two people and it is free. The domain and the server the image is downloaded from are not. If you would like this to continue, there are three membership tiers; the system stays free either way.

Once the repository opens, CONTRIBUTING.md will carry the code conventions, package policy, and review process.
